Toyota has officially unveiled the Land Cruiser FJ, a rugged compact off-roader that carries forward the legendary Land Cruiser spirit in a smaller, more agile form. The new model blends heritage, practicality, and a dose of adventure — and it’s heading to markets that truly appreciate off-road capability, including the Middle East.
Familiar DNA, Smaller Footprint
The Land Cruiser FJ is built on the same platform as the latest Land Cruiser but rides on a wheelbase that’s almost 11 inches shorter, putting it close to the Land Rover Defender 90 in terms of dimensions. Despite its smaller size, the design is unmistakably Land Cruiser — with chunky box arches, bold bumpers, and a compact front end. Short overhangs and a tough roof rack complete the look, giving it the same go-anywhere confidence as its larger sibling.

Built for the Rough
Toyota hasn’t sacrificed off-road ability in the name of compactness. The FJ features 8.5 inches of ground clearance, a 31-degree approach angle, and a tight 18-foot turning circle, making it easier to manoeuvre in tight spots while still tackling challenging terrain.
Power comes from a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 163 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, sending power to all four wheels when needed. It’s not chasing high performance — it’s engineered for reliability, balance, and real-world toughness.

Practical Inside, Adventure Outside
Inside, the Land Cruiser FJ mirrors the layout of the latest Land Cruiser with a 12.5-inch center display, but it maintains a utilitarian edge. The cabin features durable fabric upholstery and chunky physical buttons — a reminder that this is a vehicle designed for adventure, not luxury.
Personalization is a key part of the FJ’s appeal. Toyota has included MOLLE panels for attaching outdoor gear, and options such as a rugged roof rack, snorkel, and accessories to tailor the vehicle for different types of expeditions. One standout feature is the optional folding electric Land Hopper trike, which fits neatly in the trunk — perfect for last-mile exploration.
“Freedom and Joy” — The Meaning of FJ
The “FJ” badge stands for Freedom and Joy, reflecting Toyota’s aim to make the Land Cruiser more accessible and fun without losing its authenticity. It’s designed for drivers who want the toughness and reputation of the Land Cruiser in a smaller, more versatile package.
Coming to the Middle East
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will go on sale in Japan in 2026, before expanding to select global markets including Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America. However, Toyota has confirmed that North America will not receive the model.

Compact, capable, and built to explore — the new FJ captures everything that made the Land Cruiser a legend, reimagined for a new generation of adventurers. In regions like Qatar, it’s set to become the go-to off-roader for drivers who want freedom, joy, and genuine off-road capability in one perfectly sized package.
